About us

Ardnacashel is a modern and friendly livery yard offering a range of livery services to suit our clients’ needs. We have great facilities and offer training and coaching to all levels of riders. Professional staff are on hand in the yard to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your horse. We take great pride in keeping our yard clean and tidy and ensuring our facilities are well maintained. Our facilities are available to hire for individual schooling or to run a riding club or pony club event.

Our History

Ardnacashel was originally a working farm with traceable roots reaching as far back as the 17th century. It is set in 55 acres of unspoiled County Down countryside.Over the last 10 years, it has gradually been transformed into an Equestrian Centre, including 5* livery, coaching, competitions, and a small, premium broodmare herd. We also keep a flock of Pedigree Texel and mixed breed sheep as a reminder of the farm’s original purpose.Ardnacashel is a family business managed by Janice Reddy. Before starting her own livery yard, Janice gained valuable experience working as a groom, first in an Eventing yard and then at a show jumping yard. During this time, Janice progressed to working as a groom for the Irish team competing in the Nations Cup. She relished the opportunity to travel with the team to competitions in various countries. Janice returned home to establish what is now known as Ardnacashel Equestrian Centre and as a rider, she specialises in Working Hunter and Showing.

Janice Reddy

Level 1 HSI Coach Janice Reddy is highly valued for producing and breaking horses and ponies for top level competition. She has enjoyed wins and high placings at Royal and County shows, and always has some well-bred young stock, suitable for show jumping, showing and eventing for sale. She runs a small, but high class broodmare herd, choosing stallions carefully each year, with high performance and temperament in mind. She also keeps two native stallions on site- Irish Draught stallion, Ardnacashel Monarch and Class 1 Connemara stallion, DS Shadow’s Elite.

Janice is petite enough to break and school ponies, suitable for children to ride and compete. She takes a gentle, yet firm approach to manners and her attention to detail leaves nothing to fate.

With a background in grooming for Show Jumping riders, including the Irish Nations Cup Team, Janice brings a high level of stable management and groundwork to the team at Ardnacashel. Knowledgable in all aspects of first aid and rehabilitation, she is often trusted with valuable competition horses, recovering from injury and responsible for their successful return to work.
